are you afraid of the "f" word?
Rapture, Blister, Burn is not a "feminist" play! It was a huge comedy hit in NYC and LA, and a 2013 Pulitzer Prize finalist in its Southwest Premiere. This "piercingly sharp, bittersweet social comedy" (The Associated Press) is sexy and smart! Aux Dog's production features Sheridan Johnson from "Best of 2013 Production" (Albuquerque Journal) Venus in Fur and Jessica Osbourne from the recent Aux Dog smash, Little Shop of Horrors.
After grad school, Catherine (played by Sheridan Johnson) and Gwen (played by Jessica Osbourne) chose polar opposite paths. Catherine built a career as a rock-star academic, while Gwen built a home with her husband and children. Decades later, unfulfilled in polar opposite ways, each woman covets the other's life, commencing a dangerous game of musical chairs -- the prize being Gwen's husband, Don (played by Ryan Montenery).
PRESS & REVIEWS
Barry Gaines, The Albuquerque Journal:
"Director Kristine Holtvedt (the director of the award-winning Venus in Fur) has selected a fine cast to perform the Southwest premiere of this Pulitzer-nominated comedy at Aux Dog Theatre."
Charles Isherwood, The New York Times:
"Intensely smart, immensely funny...As Ms. Gionfriddo's play illustrates, each generation of women has to struggle with evolving attitudes toward marriage, not to mention the seemingly unchanging verities of the male psyche..."
Jon Sobel, Blogcritics:
"Intelligent, slickly entertaining yet warm-hearted...In a two-hour display of consummate storytelling craftsmanship, ...exploring through three generations the places women find themselves after several waves of feminism, backlash, and, yes, the resulting horror-movie genres. ...The story rollicks along, thought-provoking and delightfully fun."
