A play about connection and transformation. Everything you’d expect in an Irish play and nothing she saw coming.

After sold-out performances at New York's acclaimed United Solo theatre festival where she was awarded Best Documentary Play and Best Lighting Design in 2013, Vivian Nesbitt shares her one woman show The Bark & The Tree as an official selection of The Albuquerque Film & Media Experience in a one-night-only performance at Aux Dog Theatre. Nesbitt has been invited back to United Solo 2014 as an Official Encore and is also an official selection at the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble Solo Theatre Festival for Women.

With moments of discovery and surrender juxtaposing against the frequently laugh-out-loud comedy of human nature, The Bark & The Tree is Vivian Nesbitt’s one-woman play about connection and transformation. Written by Nesbitt and directed by Lee Kitts, The Bark & The Tree is a true story set in Ireland where Nesbitt traveled to discover the truth about her great-great grandmother, the poet Eva O’Doherty - better known to her countrymen as Eva of the Nation. Nesbitt bends time and space to understand the legacy of her ancestor and in the process, she collides with her own identity and personal challenges. Nesbitt ultimately arrives at a startling place, the reality of which she never saw coming.

"Nesbitt’s story is her ancestors’ story, and it’s Ireland’s story too."
The Irish Voice, Cahir O’Doherty

"Don’t miss the genius of this extraordinary actor and writer."
NYArts, Michael Miller
